The health and safety of our guests is our greatest concern. We are proud of our 5* cleaning and housekeeping standards, but obviously, at the moment we need to have enhanced levels of cleaning as well as other safety protocols in place.
We have taken advice from UK Hospitality and The Professional Association of Self-Caterers and will be following their government approved standards and protocols. We will be keeping up to date with any changes in government guidelines.
Unfortunately, it may be necessary for us to remove some of the little extras that we usually like to provide such as magazines, DVDs, board games etc. that have been identified as 'high-risk' items. See below for a current list.
Due to the additional hours required to complete a Covid-secure clean, and because we have 'shielding' members in our household, we will not be doing same-day changeovers. There will be a minimum of 72 hours between guests.
Unfortunately, because of current guidelines, we are unable to accommodate groups of guests from more than one household or support bubble at this time.
We have accreditation from Visit England's'We're Good To Go' campaign and the AA 'Covid-19 Confident' campaign to show that we have the National Industry Standard and are abiding by government and industry Covid-19 guidelines with commitments to enhanced cleanliness and social-distancing.

CANCELLATION IN THE TIME OF COVID We want our guests to feel comfortable and confident about booking with us during these uncertain times. In the event of further Governmental lockdowns - either national or local - you will be able to cancel your reservation. You will receive a prompt refund in full. Equally, we hope you understand that we may need to cancel your reservation. In the unfortunate event that it is necessary to do so, we would of course give you as much notice as possible and a full refund. We are getting ready to reopen and look forward to welcoming our first guests back to The Chalet in a few days. We are happy to have achieved Covid-19 confident status from Visit England and the AA who have helped us to ensure we are fulfilling all the necessary safety protocols for our guests, ourselves and our community.
Because of our enhanced cleaning and sanitising protocols this year, we are having fewer guests with a minimum of 72 hours between them. This means we are offering 9 night stays, each of which includes 2 weekends.
Most of our summer is already booked, but we do still have some availability at the end of August and into September: specifically, a 9 night stay which includes the August bank holiday weekend (Fri 28th Aug - Sun 6th Sept).
It's a strange schedule for us this summer, but we hope guests will feel reassured by the extra care we are taking. The special qualities of The Chalet's location and environment also make it the perfect place to enjoy a holiday during these unusual times.

Thanks to all of you who have already contacted us about visiting this summer.
Here at The Chalet we have been busy studying all the guidelines we can find about how to open safely when we are permitted to do so. At the moment, there are no official guidelines for self-catering accommodation and no officially permitted re-opening date has been confirmed. While this is frustrating for us all, we understand that health and safety of our guests and ourselves must be the most important consideration.
It has become very clear to us that if we are able to open this summer, we will not be able to do our usual Saturday-Saturday bookings. We are extremely proud of our regular cleaning standards, but it is obvious that in the current circumstances, our cleaning protocol will need to be overhauled and will be much more time consuming. To protect you (and us), we will also be scheduling at least a 72 hour gap between guests. We will do this until we are advised it is safe to do otherwise.
As official protocols have yet to be published, it is unclear whether we will be in a position to implement them, and until we are absolutely sure that we can do so, we will not be re-opening or taking any new reservations. We will not be re-opening until we are satisfied we can do so safely. This may mean we open later than some other places.
We are a small, family business, and as several members of our own family are in 'at risk' groups, we must be extra careful at this time.
To summarise.... 1) Our date for re-opening is still unclear, and we are unfortunately, not able to take any new reservations until the situation clarifies. 2) When we are able to re-open we will have an enhanced cleaning and sanitising protocol in place as advised by official guidelines. 3) Unfortunately, we will not be able to have as many guests this year. However, this does potentially open some great opportunities for guests - we are considering offering 9 night stays which would include two weekends.
We're very sorry that we can't be more definitive at this stage, but we hope that you will enjoy beautiful Croyde all the more when you are finally able to visit.

We hope you are all well and safe. The last few months have been difficult for us all and we know that a lot of you are very keen to escape to beautiful North Devon. This has been our hope too, but with each week that passes, the chances of holidays during the early summer seem more hopeful than realistic.
The release of the latest government guidelines yesterday confirm that we must cancel/rearrange our bookings well into June. It is likely we will not be able to welcome guests again until July at the earliest. This is also the pervading feeling amongst the local community and as members of that community, we must absolutely do what is best for the people of Croyde as well as our guests.
We remain hopeful about the summer holidays, but also realistic that should this situation persist, we may have to cancel further bookings. We apologise again for the disappointment this may cause our guests, but look forward as ever to welcoming you to wonderful Croyde as soon as it is safe to do so.

March 2020... Due to the quickly developing situation regarding Coronavirus, we have made the sad decision to close The Chalet for now. We are currently in the process of cancelling or rearranging all reservations until the middle of May at the very earliest. If it becomes necessary to extend this date further into the summer we will do so. Obviously we are paying close attention to the developing situation and will be following Government guidelines at all times.
We are truly sorry for the disappointment this may cause to our guests, but the safety of our guests and the local community is paramount to us at all times, as is protecting the limited local services here in North Devon - particularly the NHS.
